Beauty galore: Freshly-crowned Sushmita and Aishwarya stun on Femina covers

It was May 21, 1994, when the news of Sushmita Sen being crowned as India’s first Miss Universe flashed on local TV sets. Within six months, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was crowned Miss World in November. The euphoria around their respective wins on the the great platform still echoes.

The beauties, which were winners in Femina Miss India beauty pageant, came together to pose for their first-ever cover together in 1995. Dressed in all black ensemble, Aishwarya, who was 22 then, and Sushmita, 19 and still a teenager then, flaunted their professional angles like a pro.

Later the beauties came together again in 1999 for Femina in 1999 for our anniversary special cover, in which they dressed and impressed as royalties.

Sushmita and Aishwarya posed for another cover again in shimmery white outfits, leaning against each other, in 2000.
