February 10, (THEWILL) – Former Miss Nigeria 1963, Alice Adegbe, who is an indigene of Benue state, has called on organisers of beauty pageant in the country to package the event devoid of Immorality and negative tendencies.


Speaking in Makurdi, Miss Adegbe pointed out that the emphasis of such a pageant should be how to bring out positive attributes of the contestants and natural beauty that would earn them respect in the society.

She lamented that contestants of beauty pageants nowadays, have resulted in cutting corners, thereby defeating the aim of the show.


The 76 years old woman, who won ‘Miss Nigeria’ in 1963 that was organised by Daily Times, advised young girls of this generation to always conduct themselves in a manner that would earn them respect in the society.


While thanking God for preserving her life over the years, Miss Adegbe appealed for recognition, stressing that as someone who did Benue state and Nigeria proud at her


early stage in life, it will be proper if she was accorded the desired recognition in the country.


Responding to a question, the former Miss Nigeria said she is now at her village in Otukpo local government area of Benue state and running a school cooking programme to earn a living.


According to her, due to old age, she could not dance as she did when Daily Times organised the event in which she featured and came top among other competitors.


She disclosed that Roy Chikago and Sunny Ade, who played high life music for walking and dancing competitors, used the same stage where a panel of judges assess and score contestants.
