Te Ara Hunt. Picture by Rebecca Grunwell Gisborne woman Te Ara Hunt will compete for the crown of 2018 Miss Universe New Zealand in Auckland tonight.
The community support worker, originally from Te Araroa, represents this region among 20 pageant finalists.
Te Ara, a self-confessed “gumboot-wearing Coastie girl”, says participating in the pageant has been a huge step out of her comfort zone but she has enjoyed the challenge.
During pre-judging interviews yesterday she was asked, “Why do you want to be Miss Universe New Zealand?”
“To be honest, it would be a dream to be crowned, but I have already conquered so many of my own fears, discovered another side to myself and re-developed new dreams. I can’t help but feel like I’ve already won.”
The pageant will screen live on Bravo TV and from the Miss Universe New Zealand Facebook page tonight at 8pm.
