For a while, many Twitter users were sure Miss SA titleholder Zozibini Tunzi had gotten inked up. Lefty Shivambu/Gallo Images
It’s the Wedding Issue and, while across the pond, people have moved on to other news ever since the pair covered the fashion glossy, some South Africans are bewildered about why Zozibini Tunzi, the former Miss SA, got married on the QT and when exactly she got so many tattoos.
It wasn’t so long ago that being visibly inked up could get you banned from the pageant, after all. In 2014 three Miss SA contestants, Kelly Davids, Altina Vries and Aseza Matanzima, were disqualified from taking part in the competition.
A lot has changed since then, making the confusion over the cover that features models Nella Ngingo and Arantxa Oosterwolde understandable.
At first glance, Nella could be mistaken for Zozi.
It’s the cheek bones, the haircut, the smile and the figure that all make the Burundian model and LGBTQ rights activist look like the 2019 Miss SA.
The striking image was shot for the Vogue Netherlands May 2022 cover and resurfaced on SA Twitter this week, making the former Miss Universe trend.
“Please tell me when did Zozi get all those tattoos? Oh and happy pride month Queen,” one user by the name of Kamogelo Senyatso said. Is Nella Zozi’s 'twin'? You decide.
