Reita Faria’s sensational answer that won her the crown of Miss World 1966

Crowns aren’t made of rhinestones; they are made of discipline, determination, and a hard to find alloy called courage.
Reita Faria set the stage on fire with her confidence and stood out from the crowd of fifty-odd contestants. She had a vision in mind with her participation at the global platform, and her finale answer garnered all attention and appreciation, which helped her win India’s first Miss World crown.
She was also the first Asian to win the title at the prestigious pageant. During the contest, she even won the sub-titles of 'Best in Swimsuit' and 'Best in Eveningwear' (for which she was draped in a beautiful saree).

At the grand finale, Reita, a medical student at that time, was questioned - Why she wanted to become a doctor, to which she replied that India needed more obstetricians and gynecologists. An amused jury then added that India already has a lot of babies. Reita quickly retorted and said, that was something we needed to discourage! Her startling reply was received with loud applause, and she was crowned Miss World 1966 at the event finale.
The stunning beauty kept to her word and completed her M.B.B.S. degree and, after that, went on to study at King's College Hospital, London. She had a glorious reign and was part of various mission activities.
Reita, who later, received many offers to act in films, refused the offer to concentrate on medical studies.
The beauty queen created history and became an inspiration to many generations of pageant aspirants. We salute her for her courage and determination, which played a significant role in her victory.
