Sushmita Sen took to Instagram to share an old class photograph with her school friends. The actress is unrecognisable in the pic.

Sshmita Sen took to Instagram to share an old picture of herself with her schoolmates.
A17-year-old Sushmita Sen, who went on to make India proud by winning the Miss Universe title in 1994, didn't know a year ago that the next year is going to be a turning point in her life. She was just like any other teenager, naive and introvert, enjoying school with her friends. Sushmita took to Instagram to share an old class picture of herself with her school friends.
Sharing the picture, which was clicked in 1993, just a year before she became Miss Universe in 1994, Sushmita wrote, "The 17 yr old (not so confident, introvert, naive) me had no idea that, just in a matter of another year, my life would change forever, as would my choices & thereby my personality (sic)."
She went on to add, "This I call a #turningpoint, one that awaits us all at different times & in unique ways. Never doubt its existence, keep putting one step in front of the other... ARRIVE YOU WILL!!! Gratitude & love to all my teachers & everyone in this picture for being such an integral part of my journey leading up to that empowering turning point!! #sharing #hope #love #friends #teacher #journey #promiseofdestiny #keepmoving #itsallhappening. In the photo, Sushmita is seen posing with her schoolmates, but it is hard to recognise her in the picture. For the convenience of her fans, the actress reveals who she is among several 17-year-olds at the end of her caption.
In 1994, Sushmita became the first Indian woman to win the Miss Universe title. Her Miss India competitor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, won Miss World in the same year.
During a recent interview, the former Miss Universe revealed that she had lost her passport right before she was meant to leave for the Miss Universe pageant in the Philippines. She said, "It was given to Anupama Verma, then a very famous model and she was also a coordinator for events. She had my passport for a show in Bangladesh. She needed it for some ID proofing. So I very confidently told Miss India, 'Don’t worry my passport is very safely with Anupama Verma.' She couldn’t find it. So she did take responsibility for it and she said 'I don’t know what I have done’ but the timing of it was scary."
She said that the organisers were not entirely helpful either. Apparently, they wanted to let Aishwarya compete in the Miss Universe pageant instead, while she went for Miss World. This made her angry.
Sushmita was adamant to go. "I only cried in front of my father and I said, Baba, I’m not going for anything else. I rightfully deserve to go for this. If I can’t go, nobody else will go for it,'" she said.
And the actress somehow found her passport and went on to write history and win the Miss Universe pageant.
