Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach can’t help but get emotional when asked about where she is now which she describes as a “secure” place.

“I’ve been very fortunate, first of all, that I won Miss Universe – that’s where it all started,” she said. “A lot of work came after that and are still coming in, still pouring. I’m so grateful.”

The topic was brought up as just recently, Pia gave netizens a glimpse of her condo unit.

“I’m so excited, I can’t wait to move in. This is really a milestone for me because for the longest time I’ve been renting house, at kung saan-saan din ako lumipat.

“I also remember the feeling of barely being able to pay for rent, and even electricity bills. It really brings back so many memories. I’m relieved all the hard work has finally paid off.”

On how she was able to “save up,” Pia is grateful she’s not prone to “impulsive buying.”

“I don’t spend on things that I don’t really need. I have my few moments here and there like with makeup and stuff but then – ’cause I know the feeling ng wala eh, so ayoko ng maulit sa akin,” she shared.

Her next goal is putting up her own business.

In the meantime, we asked Pia what’s next after hosting the now-defunct reality competition series “World Of Dance PH?”

“I’m working on a movie with Black Sheep co-starring Vhong Navarro. We’re going to start shooting very soon. It’s a dark comedy, very interesting,” she said.

Pia is excited to be acting again after her last big screen project in 2018 “My Perfect You” along Gerald Anderson.
“I really missed acting, I really love it ’cause everyday I’m Pia but then for a few days, I can be someone else and that’s fun.”

About beauty pageants
Pia was asked about her opinion on the coming Miss Universe pageant. Recall that Pia passed the crown to Miss Universe 2016 Iris Laurence Mittenaere in the Philippines, and last year Catriona Gray was able to grab the title once more.

“Yeah sure, why not?” when asked about the possibility of a back-to-back win for the Philippines. “But then baka puro Philippines na lang. Baka mag-back-to-back-to-back pa tayo.”

Well, what if?

“You know if Valenzuela did it a few years back, I think we can do it too. There’s no rule about that. I mean I’ve been a judge before and they don’t ever tell us that ‘Oh the winner was from, for example, South Africa so make sure…’ So there’s nothing like that. Whoever you feel is the winner for that night will win regardless who won the year before. So there is that possibility,” she said.

Queens for a cause
Showing once more that their beauty is more than skin deep, Pia along with Miss Universe 2018 Catriona will take part in a Benefit Gala that brings women empowerment and the indomitable Filipino spirit to the fore.

Dubbed “The Universe Gives Back,” the event brings together two confidently beautiful women on a mission to celebrate and uplift the Filipino spirit through fashion and philanthropy. The Miss Universe Philippines and Binibining Pilipinas Charity Fashion Gala is spearheaded by co-chairpersons Pia, herself, architect Richelle Singson-Michael and fashion designer Albert Andrada to bring the brand to a higher-level than a one-day television special.

The gala, to be held June 4 at the Marriott Grand Ballroom, showcases the talents of eight top Filipino designers. Albert Andrada, Rhett Eala, Michael Leyva, Ito Curata, Jot Losa, Avel Bacudio, Cherry Veric, and Martin Bautista will create pieces that will be modelled by this year’s candidates of Binibining Pilipinas and Miss Universe Philippines.

Young Focus PH’s Wabel Animoza, Miss Universe Philippines and Binibining Pilipinas Charity Fashion Gala co-chair fashion designer Albert Andrada, Pia, Miss Universe Philippines and Binibining Pilipinas Pilipinas Charity Fashion Gala co-chair Architect Richelle Singson–Michael, and Executive Director and Founder of LoveYourself Dr. Vinn Garcia-Pagtakhan

The two Miss Universe queens will participate as their way of showing support for their chosen foundations. Pia will do it for Love Yourself, while Catriona will grace the catwalk for Young Focus.

Baby girl
In line with the Mother’s Day, we asked Pia what her plans are this year.

The beauty queen said her mom likes simple joys in life.

“You just treat her in a restaurant that serves seafood – her favorite, and she’s good already,” she said. “So most probably I’ll treat her or if not, we will treat each other. Actually, she just went back to UK so most probably we will not spend Mother’s Day together but then mom kung ano man gusto mo sige na bibigay ko na sayo.”

Asked to share her fondest memory of her mom, Pia revealed it was spending a lot of time together in the kitchen.

“She loves to cook. I think most of the time, most of her days are spent in the kitchen. As soon as she wakes up, she goes to the gym and then she’ll spend all day in the kitchen just preparing food for the family. We like to bond over food, very Filipino.”

The beauty queen said it is during those times that she’s able to tell her mom “anything” from happy, sad stories to shocking or scary ones.

What’s the best advice her mom has given her?

“Be kind to everyone. Even to people who open doors for you, say hello, say good morning. Always smile to everyone,” she shared.

“Actually now that I think about it, it may sound simple but it’s very useful and important. You should always treat everyone equally kahit ’yung waiter, kahit ’yung security guard, kahit sino pa ’yan dapat pantay-pantay lahat.”

Oh, and her mom taught her the value of saving money.

“She told me that mabilis din pwedeng mawala kaya kailangan talagang mag-ipon for the rainy days.”
