WHO IS TIM TEBOW'S FIANCÉE, DEMI-LEIGH NEL-PETERS? FORMER NFL STAR ANNOUNCES ENGAGEMENT TO 2017 MISS UNIVERSE

Former NFL quarterback and current professional baseball player Tim Tebow announced his engagement Thursday to former Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters.

With a scenic backdrop behind him, the professional baseball player got down on one knee outside of Jacksonville, Florida. The couple strolled along a lake near the Tebow-family farm before the athlete revealed the 7.25-carat stunner, according to People.

It's uncertain when Nel-Peters became linked to the 31-year-old; however, pictures of the couple became public on their social media profiles around August 2018.

The 23-year-old South African model was crowned both Miss South Africa and Miss Universe in 2017. Despite making quite the name for herself in the pageant world, Nel-Peters has made steps in her activist role.

Before receiving her Miss Universe crown, Nel-Peters was carjacked at gunpoint. The horrifying experience led her to start the Unbreakable campaign — a self-defense program which aims to teach women how to protect themselves.

“A women’s empowerment course that I did prior to that incident gave me the skills, knowledge and sound advice of what to do in a situation like that, and I believe it truly saved my life,” she told HollywoodLife. “I started a campaign called Unbreakable, which I ran across South Africa, hosting workshops with experts in the field and giving women the same skills I was taught to handle situations like the one I was in.”

The model also is very passionate about her 12-year-old sister, who was born without a cerebellum — leaving her completely disabled. Nel-Peters has called her sister the "biggest inspiration and motivation" in her life.

Tebow, who has become known for his strong Christian faith, told People in 2017 the difficulties of finding a life-partner.

“I’m looking, but I just can’t seem to find anyone,” he said. "I have so many things I want. No one will be happier than me when I finally find the right person.”

“They have to really love God,” he continued. “My faith is important to me — it’s the most important thing — and I need to be with someone who also shares that faith.”

When he announced his engagement, Tebow updated People and said Nel-Peters was "perfect" and exactly who he was looking for all along.
