HOUSTON, Texas — We'd like to offer congratulations to 12News employee Blaine Ochoa for being crowned the 2019 Miss Houston!

The pageant took place last night, April 20. There were 53 contestants competing in three different categories: evening gown, fitness and interview.

Ochoa said she has been competing off and on for years. This was the Crystal Beach native's third time competing in the Miss Houston pageant.

She previously placed first runner up and second runner up. With the title, Ochoa will now go on to compete in the Miss Texas Pageant in September.

She's a graduate of High Island High School.

“I’m still in awe! It’s truly an honor to be the new Miss Houston 2019!" Ochoa said. "This has been a dream of mine for years and it finally came true. I’ve been working towards this goal for 3 years and it’s so rewarding to see it come into fruition.

"I am a firm believer in following your dreams, never giving up, and trusting God’s perfect timing. Last night was a moment I will never forget and I am truly thankful for everyone who has supported my journey!

"I can not wait to represent the great city of Houston at Miss Texas this coming September!”
