Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 17) — Two Miss Universe Philippines candidates have withdrawn from the competition after contracting the coronavirus disease.
Miss Universe Philippines candidate Maria Isabela Galeria, who represented the province of Sorsogon, posted the announcement on her Facebook page Thursday.
“With a heavy heart, I believe now is not the right time to join the pageant. I still feel tired, and I don't think my body will allow me to participate in the activities of Miss Universe Philippines,” she said.
Galeria tested positive for COVID-19 on September 27 and recovered on October 11.
Meanwhile, another candidate tested positive for the viral disease.
Vincy Vacalares of Cagayan de Oro will also withdraw from the pageant after discovering that she contracted the virus.
“This means that I will not be able to continue with my journey to the Miss Universe Philippines crown this year,” Vacalares said.
The 2020 edition of the Miss Universe Philippines pageant will be held on October 25 in Baguio City.
