India’s Adline Castelino (LIVA Miss Diva Universe 2020), who will represent the country at Miss Universe, has recovered from coronavirus and is all set to make the country proud. The beauty queen is still under home quarantine and is maintaining all the safety protocols.
The stunning beauty, in conversation with the Times beauty pageant team, opened up about her preparations for the highly-anticipated Miss Universe 2020 pageant, which is happening amidst partial international lockdowns.
Speaking on her preparations, Adline said, “The year was very unique and there were many highlights but there was a sudden lockdown. So we just experienced the victory and it was followed by being locked up at home. In the beginning, there weren’t any sessions and everything was online. Even the panelists and the delegates were trying to figure out how the online thing will work out and how we could learn through it. After some time, we started going out to meet the panelists, learning about speech and the rest of the preparation was online. It was a difficult time because you are anticipating the pageant, you think about a timeline, I heard it was going to happen in December, then February, then finally May.”
The beauty queen also pondered over the impact of COVID-19 on her mental state. She said, “Lots of things happened in India, people lost their lives, the migration of workers impacted everyone mentally. It really showed me what difference I can make in the social betterment of people. For the first time, everyone came together and helped each other. I started a fund and people pitched in ideas. I think the platform really gave me the strength to make this kind of difference. Also, training under safety protocols was not an easy task, but it left me technically advanced.”
Also, as part of the preparation, the beauty queen attended different sessions with industry stalwarts. Adline spoke about what all went into her training. "We had a speech session from the beginning along with a walking session that continued for a long time. After things improved in November-December, we started training for hair and makeup. Another aspect of the training was self-learning, looking through the current affairs, learning more about India, and I think that comprises the entire preparation.”
According to Adline, in the end, Miss Universe is just a representation of love and humanity, and it's very normal for one to feel the pressure. “But a platform like beauty pageants is not something to put women down. People should put themselves in the shoes of a beauty queen who represents them and understand that an international representation is just about bringing the best out in women and humanity and nothing else,” she added
When asked about the great expectations of not erring on the stage, Adline stated, “You cannot know everything, that's not possible. One has to have that humility. Even while preparing myself I am learning about a lot of things but when we are standing on the stage it’s not possible to remember each and every point. Whatever happens at that moment it comes only for that moment and sometimes luck also plays a big role and I know it is also what’s written in your destiny. I think people should be supportive, regardless of what happens."
Adline Castelino has earlier proved herself with her victory at Miss Diva Universe 2020. And now that the voting is on for the Top 21 at Miss Universe 2020, the beauty queen talked about the response that she is getting from her fans who want to ensure she lands up on the list. She said, "I'm getting a lot of love and I'm really surprised that even at this time people are coming out to support in whatever possible way they can and they are sending messages in different languages. I have been reading their comments and somebody is like, 'I have taken everybody's cellphone in my house and voted for you didi' and all these sweet loving messages. I don't think you can experience this kind of love ever. So I'm just enjoying the process and it's just so humbling but I need a lot more support from people as we are against different nations but we are fighting for the crown in unity. So it's really important to get our people to support and I want that the message to spread and people support to really understand what's happening at Miss Universe 2020."
