MANILA, Philippines — ALV Pageant Circle of talent manager Arnold L. Vegafria had earlier announced that it will stage a standalone Miss Supranational Philippines pageant, with the deadline for submission of application set on Jan. 31. But it will no longer happen.
The group posted on social media a statement that not only will it not mount the country’s first dedicated national competition to select the Philippines’ representative to the Miss Supranational pageant, it will also no longer partner with the Poland-based global tilt.
“After much deliberation, the board members and partners of ALV Pageant Circle have decided not to renew our Miss Supranational franchise and forego our plans of staging the Miss Supranational Philippines pageant this year,” the statement mentioned.
Vegafria acquired the franchise in 2021, and hastily sent Miss World Philippines contestant Dindi Pajares to the international competition. The national pageant was postponed several times because of the changing protocols related to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the organization had to select the country’s delegate even before it was able to stage the coronation night.
He conducted a poll among the candidates of the 2021 Miss World Philippines pageant, and Pajares garnered the most votes from her fellow contestants. She officially received the Miss Supranational Philippines crown and flew to Warsaw for the global tilt, where she finished in the Top 12.
In the 2022 Miss World Philippines pageant, Alison Black captured the Miss Supranational Philippines title. She finished in the Top 20 of the 2022 Miss Supranational competition.
ALV Pageant Circle expressed gratitude to the Miss Supranational organization for the two-year partnership, and “wish them all the best in all their future endeavors.”
Before Vegafria acquired the Miss Supranational pageant’s Philippine franchise, the Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) held it.
Elaine Kay Moll, who was first runner-up in the 2012 Binibining Pilipinas pageant, was the first delegate sent by the national organization to the Miss Supranational pageant. She was proclaimed third runner-up in the international competition.
The next year, for the 50th edition of the Bb. Pilipinas pageant, the official titles at stake included Bb. Pilipinas Philippines. The crown went to pageant veteran Mutya Johanna Datul, who eventually became the Philippines’ first, and so far only, Miss Supranational winner.
There has been no official word from BPCI if they will reacquire the Miss Supranational license, or if another organization or personality will get the franchise. EDV
