Tya Jané Ramey of Arouca beat 23 contenders to become Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago 2022 on Sunday, September 11, held at Queen's Hall in Port of Spain.

Arouca's Tya Jané Ramey crowned as Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago 2022
Tya Jané Ramey of Arouca beat 23 contenders to become Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago 2022 on Sunday, September 11, held at Queen’s Hall in Port of Spain.
Ramey, aged 24, is not only a model but also an athlete, dancer, alto saxophonist, and social work and social policies graduate. She is the former Miss World Trinidad and Tobago winner who was placed in the Top 40 during Miss World 2018 and was awarded the title of Miss World Caribbean.
Meanwhile, Amanda Ameerali became the first runner-up, and Tishanna Mitchell was the second runner-up, followed by Sihle Letran, Maya Underwood, and Candiesha Joseph, who got the positions in the Top 6.
Alliyah Mentor of Chaguanas West, Christina Thomas of Diego Martin West, Oshun Mills of Tobago West, Tanika Durity of St Joseph, Tyler Thomas of Valsayn South and Ulani Fletcher of Tobago East made it to the top 12.
The national competition of last night made the return of Trinidad and Tobago to the Miss Universe pageant almost after five years.
Tya Jané Ramey, the new Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago, who also got the Miss Photogenic award, were crowned by the former Miss Universe TT of 1998 Wendy Fitzwilliamalong with one of the pageant’s judges, Wendy Fitzwilliam. She will now be representing her country, Trinidad and Tobago, at the 71st Miss Universe pageant, which is set to take place during the first quarter of 2023 in San Jose, Costa Rica.
The pageant commenced with 23 participants before the number went down to the top 12 after swimsuit, nightgown as well as question and answer segments.
This was the first time married women and mothers with children were also allowed to enter the pageant, which organisers said was a positive shift toward modern standards for these competitions.
The show was hosted by new franchise holders, local pageant academy Crowns as well as Sashes.
