The 21-year old from Adelaide secured the dubious honour courtesy of a Budgy Smugglers competition in Sydney last week, and now he’s back in his hometown for a prized meeting with our Miss Universe Australia, Olivia Rogers.
“It’s pretty crazy that I get to meet her, she seems like an amazing person and she definitely spreads a positive message so it’s great to get a chat with her,” Dixon said.
“It’s been an awesome few days, I’ve been getting stopped around the place, all over Sydney and here, people have been saying hello and asking for photos. A fair few drinks have been bought for me too which is great ... everyone’s been really happy for me.”
Dixon, who credits a relaxed attitude to diet and exercise for his title, said he hoped the lighthearted competition would help anyone dealing with body image issues feel more confident about themselves.
“Now that it’s starting to soak in, I think it’s definitely more than just a bit of fun. I’ve already heard stories of people who couldn’t take their shirt off in front of people and after seeing me and the competition, they now feel comfortable enough to do so,” said Dixon, who won a trip to Thailand for his efforts.
“It’s all about making people feel confident in the skin they’re in, so they can have fun and have a good time no matter what they’re wearing and what they look like.”
Olivia said it was a pleasure meeting Dixon, describing him as a “genuine Aussie legend”.
“I can see why he took out the title. He was rocking his budgy smugglers and we had a bit of an audience but he was so calm and confident, it was awesome,” she said.
“We had a good chat about how good things happen when you just say yes and stay open minded, and also by being yourself and being confident in your own skin.”
