It’s official. Binibining Pilipinas 2019 first runner-up Maria Andrea “Aya” Abesamis is the new Binibining Pilipinas Grand International 2019.

“It’s overwhelming. But actually, I would be able to continue the responsibilities of Bb. Pilipinas Grand International,” said Aya, when asked about her feelings in finally wearing the Bb. Pilipinas Grand International sash, during the topping-off ceremony of the first Ibis Styles Hotel in the Philippines at Araneta City in Quezon City Monday afternoon.
“I just learned about it a few weeks ago. I was still on vacation and then they told me what would be my responsibilities. That’s it,” Aya said.
Aya replaced Samantha Ashley Lo who gave up her title due to travel issues. The Bb. Pilipinas 2019 batch of winners was crowned in June, 2019.
The new beauty queen from Pasig said that she hopes to use her title to promote her advocacy and help everyone. “Just like how my sisters are doing now.”
Asked if she would still compete abroad, Aya said: “Yun ang hindi ako sure. Hindi po namin napag-usapan ‘yung part na iyon but as of now, I just have to do my duties.”
But sources at Bb. Pilipinas said that Aya will definitely crown her successor during the grand coronation of Bb. Pilipinas 2020 beauty pageant a few months from now.
Aya, who just turned 28, is the daughter of Miss Universe 1984 third runner-up Desiree Verdadero-Abesamis.
This is the second time that she competed in the country’s most prestigious national beauty pageant. In 2018, she finished in the top 15 of the same pageant.
Aya is a Fine Arts graduate from the University of Santo Tomas. She is also a member of the Professional Models Association of the Philippines (PMAP).
“As an artist, I believe that this can empower, enable, and also inspire a lot of people or anybody at least, especially the youth and the vulnerable members of society,” said Aya in her video speech for Bb. Pilipinas pageant.
