The candidates of Binibining Pilipinas 2021 have chosen their favorite beauty pageant moments!
In an exclusive interview with GMA News Online, the candidates revealed what were the most iconic pageant moments that stood out for them.
Candidate No. 11 Vianca Louise Marcelo of Bocaue, Bulacan, shared that her favorite moment was the Miss Universe 2010 pageant with Venus Raj.
“It was so beautiful,” she said in Filipino.
Candidate No. 15 Karen Laurrie Mendoza of Iloilo said it was during the Miss Universe Philippines coronation of Rabiya Mateo, who wore a stunning red gown, because “red is power.”
Meanwhile, candidate No. 30 Mercedes Pair of Cebu said Miss Grand International 2020 first runner-up Samantha Bernardo's crowning moment was her favorite when Samantha swatted Miss Grand International USA on the arm.
For candidate No. 30 Mercedes Pair of Cebu, it was when Samantha Bernardo and Miss USA Abena Appiah were playfully hitting each other while waiting for the crowning moment at Miss Grand International 2020.
“There’s a meme out there doing this to Miss USA, so that was funny,” Mercedes said.
Candidate No. 18 Ma. Ruth Erika Quin of Nueva Ecija and candidate no. 2 Lois Ann Badando of Marikina said their favorite pageant moment was Catriona Gray’s iconic slow-mo twirl at Miss Universe 2018.
“Her slow-mo turn, it was very cool. It’s very amazing,” Ruth said.
“Definitely Catriona’s slow-motion [twirl],” said Lois Ann. “I also like Olivia [Culpo] because her face was such a big mood for 2020.”
Meanwhile, candidate No. 20 Lovely Mercado of Roxas, Isabela, and candidate No. 14 Justine Beatrice Felizarta of Padada, Davao del Sur, said theirs was the coronation of Pia at Miss Universe 2015.
“It’s been so long since the Philippines won and the way she won was so unexpected and she handled it with so much grace,” Justine said.
The Binibining Pilipinas 2021 grand coronation event will be held on July 11 at Smart Araneta Coliseum and livestreamed on YouTube. It will be hosted by Catriona and Miss Grand International 2016 1st runner-up Nicole Cordoves.
For this year’s pageant, candidates will be vying for four titles, namely Binibining Pilipinas International, Binibining Pilipinas Grand International, Binibining Pilipinas Intercontinental, and Binibining Pilipinas Globe. – RC, GMA News
