SIXTEEN-year-old Blue de la Mare is a familiar face on the local modelling scene after she began to appear on the fashion pages of local media as a 12 year old.
The dual New Zealand and Fijian national is Fiji's Miss Teen entrant to the annual World Supermodel South Pacific Pageant held annually at The Pearl South Pacific in Pacific Harbour.
Now a law student studying through distance learning with the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CLIEX) Law School, Miss de la Mare is conscious about the negative effects that the industry has on body image.
"Model sizing is the number one thing that I would change. I feel that the small sizes that models are forced to be creates an unhealthy weight range for all girls and women alike," she said.
The teenager will compete with models from Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Cook Islands, Samoa and Papua New Guinea, as well as countries from 'surrounding South Pacific Region', a statement from pageant organisers say.
The pageant, which will be held from April 26-29, is to choose a teenage and adult age model to represent the Pacific to the international finals to be held in Vietnam in November.
"I love Fiji, it is my home. I am so excited to have the opportunity to represent our beautiful country. I believe that we have the most beautiful people in the world, so to be selected to represent that is such an honour," Miss de la Mare said.
