Love them or hate them, beauty pageants are a huge thing and mean a lot to many young women for many reasons.

The grandmama of all pageants is the Miss World competition, the largest pageant on the planet.

Past winners have included Baywatch movie star Priyanka Chopra and Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai.

This year, Byron Bay woman Lily Buhl, has successfully made her way through the Queensland State Final held on Sunday on the Gold Coast and will vie for a title in the National Final to be held on July 19.

Lily grew up in Byron Bay, and is much more than a pretty face. When Lily isn’t modelling, she’s on the netball court. When Lily was just 15 she was selected to play for the QLD Premier State League, which made her one of the youngest in the level.

Lily is currently studying for a Bachelor of Primary Education and hopes to travel in the future teaching English to children around the world.

The Miss World Organisation PR says they founded the ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ movement more than 35 years ago – the focus on encouraging women around the world to live a compassionate and humanitarian life. Miss World has raised over a billion dollars globally for their Beauty with a Purpose program.

All Miss World contestants participate in the Beauty with a Purpose program, and fundraise for Variety, a children’s charity that aims to improve the lives of sick, disadvantaged and disabled children. In 2018, Miss World Australia contestants were able to fundraise over $300,000 for Variety.
