Cape girls in Miss South Africa finals

The country’s 12 most beautiful women have been lined up for the Miss South Africa pageant.

And one of them will be crowned the new Miss SA by outgoing winner Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters on 27 May.

Two of the finalists – all of whom are slimkoppe – are living in Cape Town.

Tamaryn Green, 23, from Paarl, is in her final year of medicine at the University of Cape Town.

And Akile Khoza, also 23, is studying for her Masters in neuroscience at Stellenbosch University. Akile is originally from Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga.

Celebrating its 60th anniversary, the Miss SA pageant will also have a dramatic new format.

Traditionally, during the final on pageant night, the top 12 finalists are reduced to five, from which a second princess is announced, followed by a first princess and then the winner.

This year, following the cut to the top five finalists, the organisers will go straight to a top two announcement. One of the pair will be named Miss World South Africa and one will receive the title of Miss Universe South Africa. Both will go on to represent SA on the global stage in each respective competition.

But, as there can be only one reigning Miss SA, the two winners will be asked one final question by the judges as the pageant draws to a close. Their answers will determine who is crowned as the official Miss South Africa 2018.

The Top 12 finalists each receive a prize package worth R180 000.

The glittering finals will be hosted by Bonang Matheba on Sunday, 27 May at the Sun Arena at Time Square in Pretoria.
