MISS Universe 2018 Catriona Gray and Miss Grand International 2016 first runner-up Nicole Cordoves engaged the candidates of Binibining Pilipinas 2020 in a virtual lecture session on personal branding and empowerment of others on social media.
The two beauty queens discussed how the contestants can best present themselves using the hashtag #IAmBinibini and maximize their journey as ambassadors of, not only their families and communities, but the whole Philippines as well.
The continuing online lecture tackled what it really means to be a Binibini. Since beauty pageants transformed within a span of 10 years from being just a display of beauty to an embodiment of confident spokeswomen, Gray and Cordoves discussed the role of a beauty queen today, the legacy left by past beauty queens and what would the new era of “Binibinis” entail.
Catriona said the contestants should step up their journeys in the national pageant as if they are already preparing for the international pageants.
“Always consider that our country is unique and that you are not just an ambassador for your families and communities but for the whole country,” she told the girls. “Promoting the Philippines goes beyond our beautiful beaches and the Filipiniana (costumes) you wear. Strive for excellence in everything that you say and do, in every move that you make.”
“Your pageant journey is most fulfilling when it it’s about more than you,” Nicole said. “It’s important to check what legacy do you have in mind that you want to leave behind as a Miss Philippines.”
“You are first and foremost a Binibining Pilipinas more than you are yourself,” Catriona added.
The outspoken beauty queens also tacked how to start with a good concept. Pick a frame; how much do you want to share.
“It’s okay not to share everything,” Nicole said. “But if you do, make sure you tell all.”
“Make it personal,” Catriona added. “Our experiences will always be unique; how it affects you, how you respond and how you let it change you.”
The 40 contestants came up with their own introductory videos. Catriona and Nicole then picked the most interesting ones that they used in discussing the topics mentioned above.
Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI), in support of the government restrictions to curb the further spread of COVID-19 which has become a serious global pandemic, has indefinitely postponed the 57th Bb. Pilipinas Pageant until further notice.
International Beauty Congress, the Tokyo-based organization that stages the annual Miss International Pageant, one of BPCI’s franchises, has cancelled this year’s tilt and will stage the 60th pageant after the Tokyo Summer Olympics next year.
BPCI currently holds the franchise for Miss International, Miss Intercontinental, Miss Globe and Miss Grand International.
