Being a flight attendant, Miss Universe Singapore (MUS) 2018 top 15 finalist Renee Kee is able to do a full-face make-up routine in just 10 minutes.

The 25-year-old stressed that adequate hydration and getting enough rest is key to looking your best.

She told The New Paper: "Flying dries my skin out so hydration is very important. Drinking water is one thing but I also add an oil-based face mist for my dry skin and spritz it all around when I am on-the-go."

She added that following a skincare regimen of religiously applying "toner, moisturiser and sunscreen" helps in looking fresh-faced all day.

After joining MUS, Miss Kee has also learnt how to properly groom her eyebrows following the angles of the face from Cosmoprof Academy, located at shopping mall PoMo.

Earlier this month, the MUS hopefuls attended a make-up and hairstyling workshop conducted by the local beauty school, where a live demonstration was done on contestant Soh Qiao Ying.

This is Cosmoprof Academy's third consecutive year as the prestigious beauty pageant's official make-up partner.

Miss Soh, 23, a business development manager, said: "The demonstration also showed a two-toned blush application, which helps bring more colour to the face.

"(These tricks are useful) because we are always on stage and being photographed.

"Pageant make-up is all about being photo-ready while enhancing the facial features at the same time."

As a pre-school teacher, Miss Sharin Keong, 26, keeps her daily make-up look simple, typically applying eyeliner and mascara.

But having been a freelance model for the last eight years, donning a "dramatic make-up look" is quite "normal" for her.

She added that the best takeaway from the workshop was learning how to do her eyebrows the right way.

Miss Keong, the winner of modelling competition The New Paper New Face 2012, said: "I used to have (little hair in my) eyebrows and even resorted to eyebrow embroidery because each time I tried to fill them in, it was not the right shape."

Miss Loo May Tia grew up admiring her beauty queen mother Angela Lee, who clinched the first runner-up spot in MUS 1994.

The 18-year-old student said: "I remember going through my mother's make-up to experiment with the different colours.

"I would sit on her chair and I admired how my mother used to do her make-up so fast.

"I was around 16 when I truly ventured into make-up, starting with my eyebrows and mascara.

"I am still learning about contouring."

Contouring and highlighting aside, Cosmoprof's training director Lily Leong - who has 32 years of experience in the beauty industry - told TNP that "looking clean to enhance the best features, like giving definition and depth to the eyes", is the way to go for beauty queens.

"Nothing overdone and overly correcting" is the simple rule to go by when sporting pageant make-up, she added.
