Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 16) — Anabel Payano from Dominican Republic was crowned Miss Globe 2022 at the Opera & Ballet Theater in Tirana, Albania on Saturday (Sunday in Philippine time).


Miss Globe 2021 and Binibining Pilipinas Maureen Montagne passed her crown to Payano who bested 51 other candidates, including Philippine bet Chelsea Fernandez who made it to the Top 15.


Fernandez also won in the Head-to-Head Challenge, a pre-pageant segment where beauty queens talked about their advocacies.


Anamaria Babau from the United Arab Emirates was first runner-up and the “People’s Choice” while Albania’s Drita Ziri was named second runner-up and Miss Bikini.


Thanawan Wigg of Thailand was third runner-up while Vietnam bet Lam Thu Hong was the fourth runner-up and the Best in National Costume.


Here are the other special awards given during the pageant:


• Miss Talent – Spain


• Miss Friendship – Mexico


• Miss Social Media – Romania


• Miss Runway Model - Costa Rica


• Miss Elegance – Japan


• Miss Photogenic - Czech Republic


• Miss Golden Girl - Belarus


• Miss Intercontinental - San Marino


• Miss Cosmopolitan - Greece


• Miss Dream Girl of the World - Kosovo


Aspirants from Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Estonia, Ghana, Latvia, Montenegro, Poland, and Venezuela also made it to the Top 15.


In an Instagram post, the Binibining Pilipinas organization congratulated Fernandez, saying she was a “true epitome of beauty and brains” for winning the Head-to-Head Challenge.


Hours before the coronation, Fernandez said she was grateful and happy for the experience, friendships, and family she found in Albania. She was also thankful for all the support she received.


“I will forever cherish this moment that once in my life, I wear the country’s sash, and I am proud to take this journey with each of one [of] you,” she said.


“Hanggang dulo, Pilipinas, ipaglalaban ka,” she added.
