DOT says they are creating corresponding steps to promote Boracay

The Department of Tourism (DOT) said they are now creating corresponding steps to promote Boracay Island once its six-month rehabilitation is finished.

Tourism Secretary Wanda Tulfo- Teo said they will create campaign materials to promote Boracay to foreign tourists once the world-famous island is open.

“We will focus on that. Once we open Boracay, maski hindi pa open, we will start campaigning, we’ll start telling that we will be opening Boracay soon,” said Teo during a press conference today.

“We will be doing important events in Boracay para makilala na ang Boracay is now open for the public (We will be doing important events in Boracay to promote that it is now open for the public),” added Teo.

One of the important events that the DOT is eyeing is to once again host the Miss Universe pageant.

“Hindi pa sigurado (It’s not yet sure) but I’m working with the Miss Universe. I want Miss Universe to be here,” the tourism chief said.

In a previous interview, Teo said the idea of hosting the Miss Universe pageant came from President Duterte during a recent Cabinet meeting.

Teo, meanwhile, said she will be attending talks in some countries to discuss the government’s rehabilitation efforts in Boracay.

The world-famous Island will be closed to tourists starting April 26 to fix its various environmental-related problems.
