NEWARK, NJ — The reigning Miss Universe pageant runner-up offered a crowd of eager elementary school students some well-received words of empowerment during her visit to Newark earlier this week.
On Monday, Madison Anderson Berrios, who represented Puerto Rico in last year's pageant, made a trip to Newark City Hall. There, she met with students from Roberto Clemente School and other local pageant winners to offer some encouraging advice culled from her professional and personal journeys.
According to city officials, Berrios earned an associate's degree in communications and public relations at La Guardia Community College in New York, where she excelled in volleyball and track and field.
Berrios has worked as a model, but also as a humanitarian, serving as an emotional advocate and volunteer spokesperson for safe places for women in St. Kitts, Puerto Rico, and Florida. She now works with Metamorphosis, a social project based on her work with victims of domestic violence.
Berrios's appearance in Newark was made possible by Marie Llanos, who spearheads the West New York Fashion Week production.
