Expressions of interest are being invited for the organisation of the Miss Gibraltar pageant, as the Ministry of Culture will no longer be funding the event.
Event organisers will need to cover all expenses themselves or secure private sponsorship, to produce the pageant and ensure Miss Gibraltar's participation at Miss World.
The Government says it's taken the decision not to continue to organise the Miss Gibraltar show, as it considers it's no longer appropriate for governments to organise beauty contests. It says the decision also has the additional beneficial effect of reducing public expenditure by £105,000.
The Ministry says since the show remains popular with some, it will continue to fund the cost of the licence for Gibraltar for its organisation by any interested third party. It adds it's retaining the Miss World Licence in order to ensure quality control, should an individual be selected to participate in future.
Expressions of interest by anyone interested in organising the pageant will be accepted by the Miss Gibraltar Office at City Hall, by Friday the 29th of April.
