The good news for all Indian aspirants of Femina Miss India 2020 co-powered by Sephora and Roposo is that we heard you and have decided to lower two inches for you this year onwards. The long and short of it is that many of those deserving candidates who couldn't qualify earlier because their height did not meet the eligibility criteria, are now eligible for the contest!
There have been changes in perspective and ideas this year, which have challenged pre-determined beauty standards. We too have brought about a change, dear applicants -- we have revised the height parameter to welcome all aspirants who stand at 5’3″ and above, to participate and win a chance to prove their talent. Miss India 2020 is inclusive and we want every Indian woman to feel she is part of this pageant – for her beauty, brains and commitment. Pageants have often been in the limelight for displaying the aspirants’ beauty and brains, but Miss India also considers their social advocacies, their role in empowering women, and bringing a change in society by voicing their opinion against social atrocities and encouraging and influencing the youth of our country for a brighter and better tomorrow.
Along with the title of Miss India, the national platform has a lot to offer young aspirants, which includes recognition, popularity, better life, career opportunities, and financial remuneration. In 1963, the bold, brave, and beautiful Carole Joan Crawford had a glorious win at the Miss World pageant. The Jamaican model, who was then 20 years old stood at a height of only 5'3" which was considered short by Miss World standards at the time, but she won the crown, outshining 39 other delegates. Earlier than that, Colombia’s Luz Marina Zuluaga won the Miss Universe 1958 title and she stood at a height of 5’3’’. Apasra Hongsakula, Miss Universe 1965, measured 5'4". In recent times, in 2010, 5'4" tall Caressa Cameron was crowned Miss America.
