A FLIGHT attendant who was made redundant during Covid pandemic is set to fly the flag for Scotland in the Miss Great Britain final this year.

Robyn Ferguson, 27, from Clydebank is going for the Miss GB crown entering the contest as Miss West Dunbartonshire.

She was made redundant from her job during the Covid pandemic

After competing in pageants as a teen, Robyn went on to bag her dream job as an flight attendant with Emirates and was living in Dubai.

She was unfortunately made redundant due to the Covid pandemic and decided to enter Miss Great Britain - despite having never entered a UK-wide competition before.

Miss Great Britain is the UK's longest-running pageant and has been held annually since 1945.

The winner then goes on to represent Great Britain in the international final of Miss Tourism World.

'LIFE-LONG DREAM'

The maximum age you can enter ‘Miss’ beauty pageants is 27, so the Scot thought it was time to give it one last shot.

Robyn’s mum Joanne says that her daughter has always wanted to enter a Miss GB pageant and that has been a life-long dream.

Joanne said: “She has won Scottish titles in the past and represented Scotland internationally in places like Germany, Portugal, London and Chicago.

“She has never entered a UK or Great Britain pageant which would give her a wider title and felt this was the last year she could do it, it’s almost like closure.

“And what better pageant system than Miss Great Britain, it’s legendary, it’s the foundation of British pageants.

“She started competing in pageants when she was 16 and it was a hobby that she enjoyed and it built up her confidence.”

Beauty pageants helped Robyn hugely with her confidence as she was extremely shy as a kid.

Joanne spoke about how pageants helped her daughter grow in confidence.

"It really helped her understand more about herself."

She added: “Robyn was beyond shy and struggled with her confidence and talking to people.

“This helped her pull herself out of her comfort zone.

“None of us knew what was really involved in pageants.

“It’s not about putting on makeup and a nice dress and popping yourself on stage.

PAGEANT WORK

“There’s a lot more to it, there’s a lot of charity work and there’s an interview side of it where you gain the most percentage of your scores.

“There’s a lot of prep needed and that side of it really helped her understand more about herself and she did a lot of charity work which gave her the confidence to put herself out there a bit.”

The contest will take place in Leicester from September 16-17 where Robyn will have friends and family behind her cheering her on.

Joanne added: “The plan is that there will be a good Scottish contingent down there cheering her on and wishing her well.”

The last Scot to win the competition was Deone Robertson back in 2015 after Zara Holland had her title revoked after some steamy scenes when she appeared on Love Island.

Robyn will be joined by fellow Scots Rebecca Mannion as Miss Edinburgh, Julia Thomson as Miss Glasgow and Rachel Victoria Adam as Miss West Lothian.
