"Life is a process of learning, so make the most out of it," is the saying that Harnaaz Sandhu firmly believes in.
India's Harnaaz Sandhu made everyone proud when she won the LIVA Miss Diva Universe 2021. Now, the beauty queen is all set to represent India at the Miss Universe 2021, to be held in Puerto Rico. Harnaaz describes herself as a quick learner. She is a compassionate and confident girl, who always carries her passion with a headstrong attitude towards achieving her goals. The stunner aims to be the next Miss Universe from India, and has trained under some of the best experts from the glamour and grooming industry. She has been prepping hard to perfect her skills and rock the stage next month!
In an interactive conversation, Harnaaz spilled the beans about her preparations for the highly-anticipated Miss Universe pageant, her vast training experience, best memories, and more.
How do you feel about representing India at the Miss Universe 2021?
I'm filled with a lot of emotions right now. I'm excited and emotional. I was just wrapping up the style file shoot with my team and at the moment I held India's flag in my hands; I was almost in tears. I don't know how to express this feeling. Is this really happening? I'm feeling overwhelmed. But my focus is towards the goal, making my country proud, giving my best shot, and leaving it all in the universe’s hands! I’m a mixed bag right now—grateful, and nervous for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I want to make the most of.
How is the kind of response that you are getting from your fans and family, or from all around the world?
It's a privilege to see how people have been showering love, respect, and support to me since the very beginning. Their faith in me makes me want to win this crown for them and for India. It makes me feel all-the-more pushed towards the aim. A single word of appreciation or support is enough to change your mindset. It can make you feel so inspired and motivated. It can make you feel like you want to do better, not for you but also for the ones who have so much faith in you. So I think they should just keep doing that because they have no idea how empowered it makes me feel!
How was it preparing for the highly-anticipated Miss Universe pageant?
It was hectic and tough. The start is always challenging. The first few weeks of the training were like taxing and there were times when I doubted myself, given the short span of time. But the team stood by me and we worked together day in and out.
What all went into her training? Could you elaborate on the experience?
I have been getting trained in areas of communication, ramp walking, hair, and makeup amongst so many other things that are essential and important for Miss Universe.
It's great to see my creative side; the mentors are so helpful and they're so welcoming. Every time I have a session with them, they comfort me, push me and show faith in me; they are like family. They have made so much effort into making me a better version of myself.
Talking about your wardrobe, what are the different looks for Miss Universe 2021?
India is a country of diversity, and I love Indian wear! My friends and colleagues, you all are going to fall in love with my wardrobe. The team has been working so hard and also the lead pageant stylist, Bharat Gupta. EI am having fittings done every single day. I hope everybody loves my outfits as much as I love them.
One memory that you will always cherish when you look back at this journey?
I remember I got a chance to portray my talents—mimicry, singing and dancing—during the talent round. While I was on stage mimicking, I realized my only goal at that point in time was to make people laugh and spread smiles. That is a great memory. Although I was competing with my fellow sisters, that day I was just competing with myself. It was one of the most fun moments of my journey.
