MANILA – Catriona Gray took a big gamble when she joined Binibining Pilipinas 2018 last Sunday.

She was a crowd favorite to win any of the six crowns in the pageant, but Gray admitted that she was only aiming for one.

For her, it was either she gets the Miss Universe Philippines crown, or she goes home with nothing.

“You know, it’s very risky for me to join Binibining Pilipinas because it was Miss Universe Philippines or nothing for me,” Gray admitted in an interview with the entertainment website Pep.

“But I’m just so blessed to be sitting here with the Miss Universe Philippines sash.”

When asked if she ended up with another title, Gray replied: “Ahhh… I just can’t believe it!”

Gray now has the rare opportunity to represent the Philippines in two international pageants.

After finishing in the Top 5 of Miss World in 2016, she is set to compete in Miss Universe later this year.

“Super grateful ako, blessed, because I understand that it’s not every day that a beauty queen is able to have a second chance representing her country on the international stage,” she said.
