For 44 years, Miss World was hosted at The Royal Albert Hall in London. Since then, the pageant has been hosted all around the world, including South Africa twice but no other African country.

Kenya could be on its way to breaking that mould by hosting their first ever Miss World in Nairobi in 2019, as Brand Kenya and the Ministry of Sports Culture and The Arts announced at a press conference.

Speaking about this, Mary Luseka, acting CEO of Brand Kenya, said:

“Kenya is increasingly becoming the hub of international trade fairs, exhibition and events.

We have successfully hosted the World Trade Organisation 10th Ministerial conference and notable personalities like the President of the United States of America Barack Obama and the Pope Francis, among many other events.

We are confident that this visit will open up avenues for the country to host the 2016 Miss World competitions”

If this happens, Kenya will be the second African country to host the popular beauty pageant. No Kenyan contestant has yet to win the title, so perhaps this could be a nudge in that direction. The conversation is still in the works, however, the government has made clear that they are committed to working with the Miss World franchise, and are writing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the government and the Miss World Kenya team through the relevant nations to make this a success.

Let’s hope this becomes a reality! Go Africa
