KIUT Student Makes the Top 50 Miss Tanzania Pageant List

Kampala International University in Tanzania (KIUT) celebrates one of its own, Gloria Fela, a 4th Year Student pursuing Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery for contesting for the coming Miss Tanzania Pageant 2020 where the winner will present Tanzania in the Miss World Pageant.

Born and raised in Mbeya, Gloria comes from a very humble and loving family background that instilled her passion of serving others by wanting to become a medical doctor at an early age, during her o-level studies, she studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) combination in her A-level, before joining KIUT to study Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery.

Her interest with fashion and entertainment begun in her early secondary school years where she observed and participated in fashion centred school events and became more intrigued when she learned of how beauty can impact the society positively. Gloria admits there is perceived little correlation between her medical field and fashion. However, because of her passion to both fields, she believes the two can bring positive change to the society, especially in strengthening women emancipation. Therefore, she believes it is worth the efforts to pursue both to demonstrate her many abilities to serve the society.

Commenting on Miss Tanzania Pageant, Gloria showed great admiration to the contest’s emphasis of following through its motto of beauty and work for community development that encourages and gives women a platform of engaging in activities of societal significance.

Gloria is currently among the top 50 contestants, which will be followed by selection of the top 20 contestants who will eventually participate in the final Miss Tanzania 2020 Pageant contest. The top 50 level requires contestants to submit their community projects and talents before the set deadline to commence the cut-off process to the last 20 contestants.

Gloria’s project focuses on strengthening education to complement the Government’s efforts in providing quality education through the free education policy. Gloria believes that education is among the bedrocks of attaining national development because it teaches individuals the value of discipline and empowers them to face challenges that impede their social-economic progress. Her project aims at supporting underprivileged children living in extreme poverty through capacity building and provision of educational materials

The contest requires contestants to showcase their talents. Gloria has unveiled her painting skills. She has produced a video of the painting process. The video is being circulated on various social media platforms.

KIUT is incredibly happy and supportive of her achievements and believes that she would make an incredibly good ambassador of the university, communities, and nation at large through her thirst to serve people through her medical field and “beauty with purpose” endeavours.

The Miss Tanzania Pageant is an annual contest that brings together youth competitors in both beauty aspects and a holistic welfare insight to the nation and the world at large. The contest has recently redefined new objectives to be achieved in the short and long term to measurably impact the contestants and the nation through the selection of the most elegant, impressive, and determined young girls who will proudly carry Tanzania to International landscapes.
