Two stunning divas joined together to catch up on their journey post their win at Miss Universe. The Miss Universe Organization hosted a live session with the reigning Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi and Miss Universe 2000 Lara Dutta. The two strong women spoke about the current global situations as well as discussed Lara’s journey as she celebrates 20 years after her tremendous win.

Zozibini expressed her joy to finally catch up with the most successful Miss Universe queen Lara Dutta. The two exchanged compliments while Zozi also complimented Lara and mentioned that she hasn’t aged a bit. Lara shared her experience and her journey on the occasion of her 20th anniversary as beauty queen with a smile saying, “You know I have often been asked this question and I feel during my question and answer round at Miss Universe 2000, the answer I gave has revolutionized in a lot of way the pageant perceived for a lot of young woman. But I didn’t know how that felt because I had no experience and I hadn’t won by then. But I genuinely believed that the platform would be an opportunity for me as a woman to forge ahead in whatever choice and career I follow. It’s an amazing gift from the Universe to hold that title.”

Lara said another factor that drove her to join pageants was that beauty queens always had a chance to use the platform for their advocacy and work aggressively towards it. On being asked by Zozi if there has been any change in the pageant world comparing it to what it was 20 years ago, Lara said that there has been tremendous changes in the parameters in the pageants conducted today compared to the beauty pageants that were conducted 20 years before. Agreeing to Lara’s statement Zozibini also confirmed that she has also seen the changes in the pageants conducted today, where girls were judged based on their measurement, now it’s about how strong their voices are and what they have to offer to the world. The divas further discussed ‘Gender Equality’ which is Zozi’s advocacy. Lara who also stands by the same said that she spent about 14 years of her life as goodwill ambassador and gave her best to bring improvement in the society.

Lara expressed she feels humbled and blessed to be the voice for countless women especially Indian women as their voices are never heard. She also said that she feels grateful to play a role for gender equality campaigns in India as the country faces great gender ratio differences due to which female feticide ratios in the country is higher. Due to her initiative with the campaigns the country now has a rule that forbids the disclosure of sex of the child before birth. She proudly stated that everything we do as role models leaves a mark on society and that is what Miss Universe stands for.

Lara further added that Miss Universe pageant always had a profile where the women who won were always more than how they looked on-stage. She completed the gorgeous Miss Universe 2017 Demi Leigh Nel-Peters, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray and Zozibini for their efforts for the society, saying, “You girls are very well spoken and are passionate about what you want with your strong voices and are not afraid to use it when needed. I think that is what beauty pageants stand for, young women around the world who are not just about their color, how their hair looks like, or what your statistics or measurements are but it’s about how strong your voice is now.”

Amid lockdown due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus the gender-based violence is on a rise, speaking about it Lara said that the issue of domestic violence has been one of the major problems for women across the globe. She then appreciated Zozibini who had spoken about domestic abuse in her previous live session where she mentioned that because of the pandemic scare and lockdown small issues like these are forgotten but they need the light and voice to be addressed.

Lara who is the mentor to aspiring young girls in India under Miss India Organization who eventually represent India at Miss Universe appreciated Zozibini for the work she has been doing through virtual platform in times where social distancing has is highly recommended, sand said, “You’re in an incredible opportunity where you can re-write about what is to be a pageant winner or a title holder in a time like this. You’ll leave a legacy to inspire the other women and you’ll figure out how to create the space and legacy.” Assuring people for a better tomorrow the divas urges their followers to stay safe, stay positive, and stay healthy.
