Miss World Malaysia 2018, national franchise of the Miss World competition, will host its grand finale in Kuching this year, according to The Borneo Post. Organised by Creative TeamLab, the pageant also brought on board ALV Events International as its official event partner and is supported and sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports.

Global crypto offering exchange is the pageant’s co-presenter while Fantastic-G is the official licensee. Meanwhile, Flame Communications also came on board as the official PR and marketing partner. Among the list of partners include Bhawna Navneet, Ceres, Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, Quill City Mall, Unusual Productions, Asia Music City, Salon De Pelo and ASEA Fashion Designers Showcase, among others.

A+M has reached out to Miss World Malaysia 2018 for more details on the choice of location and marketing efforts.

According to its website, the pageant is “more than” just a mainstream beauty festival. In fact, it aims to promote the empowerment of young women and instill good social value in today’s society. Miss World Malaysia’s mission is “Beauty with a Purpose” and it aims to provide all beauty queens with the resources to serve the community and impact the lives of others. Chairman and CEO of Celebrity Group, Sean Wong, said Miss World Malaysia aims to raise at least RM100,000 for charity this year.

Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said in July this year that by supporting this event, fans of Miss World events will have the opportunity to learn more about Sarawak and Malaysia.

“Our vision is to lead the advancement of Sarawak’s tourism, arts, culture, youth and sports. We aim to position Sarawak as a premier tourist destination and showcase its unique arts and culture.” he added.

Sarawak saw 4.85 million visitors last year, bringing in tourism receipts of around RM8.59 billion. Top visitors to Sarawak came from China and Singapore, which saw rises in 20.2% and 15.8% respectively as of May this year.

The government has set aside RM12.5 million to bolster the state’s tourist landscape, by utilising on emerging digital technology in the next three years. This also includes the redevelopment of the ministry’s tourism web portal, which will include interactive content.

Other initiatives include developing augmented reality and virtual reality technology for tourism hot spots in the states, starting with the Old Kuching Heritage area. This will be in line with the launch of the state’s Visit Sarawak campaign at the end of 2018.
