MARIETTA, Oh. -- While most college seniors are getting ready for just finals and graduation, a Marietta College senior is preparing for that and next month's Miss USA pageant.
Casey Lassiter was crowned Miss West Virginia last October, beating out 36 other hopefuls.
She is a biochemistry major and has gained admission into Marietta College's physician assistant's program.
Her platform is about self-confidence and feeling comfortable in your own body.
She says in the time of the MeToo and Times-Up movements, pageants are still a platform that showcase strong, independent women.
"I think that young women nowadays face so many challenges when it comes to body image and just being comfortable with who they are, especially with the rise of social media," she said.
"So I hope to just be an example of being comfortable in your own skin and taking care of yourself and living that happy and healthy life that everyone deserves."
The Miss USA Pageant airs live on Fox Parkersburg May 21 at 8 p.m.
