South Africa's Gizzelle Uys was crowned 'Miss Eco International' after the prestigious event was held in Egypt over 17 days.

South African-born beauty, Gizzelle Uys, made history by being crowned Miss Eco International 2020.
Gizzelle is said to be the first winner from the continent of Africa. Even though the event is usually hosted in Africa, no one from the continent has been lucky enough to take home the crown since its inception. That is until now.
The Philippines’ Kelley Day was named first runner-up. Meanwhile, the other placements are: USA’s Alexandria Kelly (second runner-up), Venezuela’s Stefania Rodriguez (third runner-up) and Costa Rica’s Kristell Ruiz (fourth runner-up).
GIZZELLE UYS – MISS ECO INTERNATIONAL 2020
According to Cape Town etc, the event is a beauty pageant with a purpose. The competition aims to celebrate and promote remarkable women who are passionate about implementing environmental change and creating awareness.
The event was held in Egypt over 17 days, requiring the women to partake in several cultural activities in anticipation of the final event.
IMPLEMENTING CHANGE AND SAVING THE PLANET
The pageant ‘s website states:
“Miss Eco International is an International Beauty competition that brings together representatives of different cultures and traditions from all over the World. Its main objective is to promote the importance of saving our planet environmentally in addition to marketing tourism across the world.”
GIZZELLE WILL BE RETURNING TO SA SOON
The sixth edition of Miss Eco International (2020) was initially scheduled to take place from 23 March to 11 April 2020 but was unfortunately postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Luckily organisers managed to pull it off, but at a price, as some candidates contracted COVID-19.
After the event, Uys took to Instagram and assured her social media followers that she is “safe” amid concerns about the pageant’s candidates getting infected with the COVID-19 virus. In the post, Uys revealed that she is set to return home to South Africa soon as she thanked the Miss Eco International organization for taking care of her and her family.
