Miss America Pageant Scrapping Its Swimsuit Competition
The Miss America 2019 pageant won’t air until September on ABC, but women from all 50 states, as well as Washington D.C., are getting ready to compete for the national title.
The competition, which will once again take place in Atlantic City and will air live on Sunday, Sept. 9, will be undergoing some new changes as part of its revamp, now known as “Miss America 2.0.”
According to an ABC press release about the competition, the new contest no longer allows the competitors to be judges on outward physical appearances, which signals the end of the swimsuit competition and a change to the evening gown competition as well.
“In its place, each candidate will participate in a live interactive session with the judges, where she will highlight her achievements and goals in life, and how she will use her talents, passion and ambition to perform the job of Miss America,” the statement reads about what will happen in place of the swimsuit round.
As for the evening gown competition, the participants are now able to wear any evening attire of their choice, as they discuss how they hope to advance their individual social impact initiatives.
So who are the women who are participating in this newly evolved competition? Check the list below for more information and fun facts about the women competing in this year’s pageant.
