Miss America to attend State of the Union

The Miss America Organization shared a post on its Facebook page announcing Miss America 2018 Cara Mund will attend President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address Jan 30. as a guest of U.S. Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D.

“Cara is a wonderful example of bright young people in North Dakota and has a long history of community and public service,” Hoeven said in a statement.

Mund served as an intern in Hoeven’s office in Washington, D.C., after graduating from Brown University in May 2016.

She was crowned Miss America at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall on Sept. 10, becoming the first Miss America from North Dakota. The following day, Hoeven congratulated Mund on the floor of the U.S. Senate.

Mund has expressed her interest in politics and shared her aspirations to one day be the first woman to serve as governor of North Dakota.
