MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) – The Miss Belarus beauty contest keeps gaining popularity. This year 1,850 girls took part in the casting calls for Belarus' major beauty pageant, with only 708 back in 2018, said Belarus' Culture Minister Yuri Bondar at the meeting of the organizing committee of the Miss Belarus beauty pageant on 28 January, BelTA learned.
Yuri Bondar informed that the first stage of the pageant in November-December 2019 included 88 auditions and 40 cultural and entertainment events which drew 1,850 participants, while back in 2018 only 708 girls took part in the events. This year 579 participants proceeded to the regional stage of the contest, with only 196 in 2018. Two regional stages of the pageant have already taken place, in Gomel Oblast on 25 January and in Mogilev Oblast on 26 January. Seventy girls took part in the event in Gomel, with 31 selected as semi-finalists, while Mogilev drew 56 participants, with 34 making the cut.
Four stages of the pageant are yet to be conducted: the regional stages in Grodno Oblast on 1 February, in Brest Oblast on 2 February, in Vitebsk Oblast on 8 February and in Minsk Oblast on 9 February. The semi-finalists from Minsk will be selected by the National Beauty School on 15-16 February.
The final show is scheduled to take place at the Minsk Palace of Sports on 15 May. Belarus' Ministry of Culture has allocated Br300,000 for the contest, with Belarus' Development Bank transferring another Br160,000 as the main sponsor of the event. “This amount is more than enough to put on a show which would be on par with the recent Belarus Song of the Year show,” said Yuri Bondar.
The organizing committee also discussed the prize pool that will be made of funds provided by various organizations of fashion, beauty and healthcare industries.
Belarus' Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko suggested thoroughly discussing the preparation for the final show of the Miss Belarus 2020 beauty pageant and the information support of the contest. “A simple commercials on ONT and regional TV channels is not enough. Perhaps we should increase the visibility of the pageant in social media and probably on some other TV channels,” remarked the deputy prime minister.
