Miss Botswana 50th queen, Thata Kenosi today announced with immediate effect, her relocation to England where she will further her studies. The nomadic queen has previously had a stint in Japan where she also studied.

“It is with a heavy heart that today will be my last day in Botswana. I will be relocating to England to pursue my undergraduate degree in International Relations & Peace Studies with a minor in French,” said Kenosi through her Facebook page. Although, it is not yet clear if she will be in the country to hand over her crown to the new queen who will be crowned this Thursday at the University of Botswana (UB) indoor facility, Kenosi has already left the country and hopes a flight ticket to do the honours could be extended her way to do the needful.

“I know a lot of people are wondering who’s going to crown the next queen this Thursday and I’m also wondering too. It is within my interest to crown my successor, Miss Botswana 2017/2018,” said Kenosi curtly. Furthermore, Kenosi added, “Hopefully, the current Miss Botswana organisers and the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Cultural Development will accept my request to travel back to my beloved country to handover my crown as closure to my chapter as Miss Botswana 2016/2017.”

Kenosi, 22, from Moshupa emerged a favourite of the judges and was crowned Miss Botswana 2016 after beating 11 other hopeful girls on July 29th 2016. Despite the raging social media condemnations with many questioning her reign, Kenosi appeared unshaken and remained resolute in representing Botswana at the Miss World pageant. Her crowning will go down in the Botswana history books after she was christened the 50th Miss Botswana queen in harmony with the country’s 50th Independence celebrations, which took place last year on September 30th.

Kenosi’s crowning was not a rosy one as social mediums such as Facebook and Twitter went on a rage with many interrogative of her supremacy. The bone of contention was one of the pre-requisites for the Miss Botswana pageant which read thus, “The contestant should not have visible tattoos!” While Kenosi did not admit to having a few tattoos, many however speculated that she had; with others arguing that even if she did; these were not visible during the pageant thus rendering the cacophony of the brutal cyber talk fallacious. In the midst of computer-generated hounding, Kenosi strongly came out to defend her crown.

Despite many of her countrymen casting aspersions and questioning her eligibility during the Miss Botswana 2016 pageant last year July, the 1. 74m Kenosi joined a bevy of other 118 beauties at the 2016 Miss World competition, where Mireia Lalaguna of Spain crowned her successor, Stephanie Del Valle of Puerto Rico at the end of the event, which was held on 18 December 2016 at MGM National Harbour, Washington, D.C, United States.
