LIGAO CITY — The Miss Earth 2022 candidates on Tuesday planted propagules in the magrove plantation at Maonon village in this city as part of their activities in Albay province before the coronation on Nov. 29 in Metro Manila.
The mangrove plantation, situated at the Albay west coast, is one of the notable efforts of the city government.
“We wanted to showcase the good practices on how we take good care of and preserve the environment and its resources while at the same time protecting and sustaining the livelihood of the villagers in the coastal communities,” Mayor Fernando Gonzalez said in an interview Tuesday.
The candidates also toured the marine fisheries sanctuary of Batong Langoyon, where they enjoyed a day of snorkeling and walking on the white sand beaches.
“The exploration at Mt. Masaraga Protected Area, Kawakawa Natural Park, and Bambusetum was canceled due to rains, but they visited Divine Mercy Shrine instead,” Gonzalez said.
The candidates also met with deaf mute students at the Fisherman’s Center in Batang village, then attended a gala night at the city hall.
The candidates flew back to Manila on Wednesday, Nov. 23, to attend other activities.
