Miss Earth finalist sets sights on Miss SA crown

Kaomogelo Lenkoe's passion for pageants began in pre-school and she has never looked back.

Miss Earth finalist Kamogelo Lenkoe believes better preparation will help her attain the Miss South Africa title.

Last month at Southern Sun Rosebank, Lenkoe was among 10 Miss Earth finalists who spoke about the promising plans they had for the environment if they won the title.

Although the 27-year-old was not crowned Miss Earth, she said the pageant challenged her in positive ways.

“The project I was passionate about was the process of planting trees. I enjoyed it more because it challenged and required more of me. Within my project, I also had to contact the municipality and the media, which is where I discovered my capabilities of communicating with the different departments of the community.”

She noted that she would use the lessons learned to enter Miss South Africa next year.

“The lessons I took is preparing to the core for selection interviews. I will also prepare in advance, for all the activities that we will be required to attend.”

The finalist added that the end of her Miss Earth journey did not mean it was the end of her environmental passion.

“I believe I will continue planting more trees at the school I initially planted the trees at during the Miss Earth project. I also want to start a seedling project in primary schools located in different communities.”

Lenkoe explained that her passion for pageants began in her pre-school years.

“My passion for pageants began when I was in pre-school. I grew up being very slender and the people in my community would call me mmabontle, meaning beauty queen and I decided to enter pageants.”

She encouraged women who enter Miss Earth to be passionate about the environment.

“I would say go for it, firstly make sure you have a passion for environmental issues, otherwise it’s going to be boring. Secondly, try to attend all the projects that the Miss Earth team does as these benefit you.”
