Miss Intercontinental twins a first in pageant history

Never had it happened before that twins compete in the same international beauty pageant representing two different countries.

Since the presentation of the 87 candidates of the 47th Miss Intercontinental to the media on January 10 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel, Miss Albania Arvanita Peci and Miss Kosovo Arjanita Peci — both 20, Kosovo natives but now Germany residents — have caught the attention of beauty pageant aficionados throughout the world.

In her profile in the Miss Intercontinental website, Miss Albania writes: “My name is Arvanita and I am 20 years old. I was born in Kosovo and now I am living in Germany. Currently, I work as a banker… My brother was the person who registered me for the first Miss Election, so everything started in my home city. Now it is a great honor to me to represent my country at Miss Intercontinental because I am very proud to be Albanian. Moreover, it is very special for me because my twin sister is also one of the contestants in Manila, representing Kosovo…”
She lists English, Albanian and German as the languages she speaks.

Miss Kosovo, meanwhile, writes: “My name is Arjanita Peci and I am 20 years old. I was born in 1998 in Kosovo. In this year my family had to leave our country because of the war. At that time I was only one month old. It was a hard year for my family, because we had to start from zero. Today we are living satisfied in Germany. I am working as a judicial clerk… I am very happy to represent my country in Manila. It’s very special for me becaue my twin sister is also part of Miss Intercontinental as Miss Albania. Everything started when my brother registered me and my twin sister Arvanita at the first Miss Election in our city. Now we are very happy for his great idea and so we look forward to what is coming.”

She lists English, Albanian and Romanian as the languages she speaks.

In the evening gown competition and Philippine Designers Filipiniana fashion show held on Thursday at the Okada Manila Grand Ballroom, Miss Albania strutted in a silver Maria Claria gown by Angelo Dominic, while Miss
Kosovo was donned in a colorful multi-color Rey Lazaro Maria Clara gown with overflowing tassels and hair adornment.

The winning Filipiniana dress, though, was won by Maricris dela Peña, worn by Miss Argentina Celina Villalobos Fuchs.

Best in evening gown was Miss Germany Olivia Moller, who wore a red flowing gown.

The national costume competition will be held at Okada Manila The Garden tonight, while the finals/coronation night will be on January 26 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, telecast on ABS-CBN and beamed via satellite on the morning of January 27.

International singing sensation and popular Kapamilya talent Billy Crawford will be the pageant host, along with Japanese personality Taka Nori, and last year’s Miss Japan Intercontinental, Filipino-Japanese model Kumi Miyamae, also the co-organizer of the pageant being held in Manila for the first time.
