Miss Kentucky USA Braea Tilford will compete in the Miss USA Competition on May 21st on Fox.
RICHMOND, Ky.- Miss Kentucky 2018 Braea Tilford didn't grow up competing in pageants. The beauty and style guru, and University of Louisville student says she tied for Miss Kentucky in 2017 in her first pageant ever. She felt called to compete again this year and ultimately won the crown.
Tilford, 25, now heads to Shreveport, Lousiana where she will compete in the Miss USA Competition. Before leaving for the live televised event, Tilford had another important stop to make. She took time out to visit gymnasts at Excel Gymnastics in Richmond, Kentucky. The girls chanted her name as she walked into their gym. Tilford is used to being looked up to by young girls. Years before she ever thought about competing in a pageant, she started a leadership organization for teens called Grow Lead Inspire.
Her message to the young gymnasts was clear. "We all have a calling over our lives that is unique to us," Tilford said.
"Life is about figuring out how to apply our gifts and talents in ways that will allow us to be great contributions to our communities."
When asked how a woman, who had never competed in pageants before, tied in her first competition and won her second, Tilford credited her faith.
The Miss USA pageant airs on Fox 56 on May 21st .
