Miss Missouri crowned in Mexico

Miss Fleur de Lis Katelyn Lewis is crowned Miss Missouri 2018 by 2017 Miss Missouri winner Jennifer Davis.

A new Miss Missouri was crowned Saturday night when the annual pageant was held at the Missouri Military Academy (MMA) in Mexico, Mo.

Miss Fleur de Lis Katelyn Lewis, the daughter of Cliff and Lisa Lewis, from Lake St. Louis, will hope to have similar success as 2017 Miss Missouri Jennifer Davis did last year. Davis was the 1st Runner-Up in the Miss America competition in 2018. Lewis’ platform was “Your Digital Compass,” which focuses on leaving a positive footprint online. She also had a vocal performance singing a piece from “The Phantom of the Opera.”
The fifth through first runner-ups were Ali Skinner (Miss City of Fountains, from Columbia), Katie Moeller (Miss Kansas City, from St. Louis), Chelsea Arnold (Miss Springfield, from Branson), and Simone Esters (Miss Phelps County, of Columbia). Lewis will receive an official prize package that includes wardrobe pieces from Lasting Impressions, Boston Proper, Natalie M and Pink Magnolia; a fur jacket from the Missouri Trappers Association; accessories from Melody’s Quality Jewelry; fashion photography; talent consultations; and a variety of health and fitness items. Esters was also named the People’s Choice winner. Esters also won the preliminary and overall talent awards.
Preliminary winners were given out.
The preliminary rookie talent award for the sigma group went to Miss Greater Springfield Jordan Belcher, of Republic. She is the daughter of Jennifer Belcher and attends Missouri State University. She performed a lyrical dance to the song, “Piece by Piece.”
The overall preliminary talent award was given to Miss Metro St Louis Holly Enowski, of Eldon. She is the daughter of Bob and Lisa Marie Enowski and attends the University of Missouri-Columbia. Holly played the “Flight of the Bumblebee” on the marimba.
As for the Outstanding Teen Pageant, Ashley Whipple (Miss Heartland, of Chesterfield) won the crown. She is the daughter of Andy and Donna Whipple.
Other top five outstanding teens from fifth to first runner-up included Lauren Vanlandingham (Miss Metro St. Louis, of Ladue), Shae Smith (Miss Springfield, of Bolivar), Taylor Blackwell (Miss Audrain, of Frankford), and Faith Whatley-Blaine (Miss Northwest, of Florissant).
Whipple receives a $5,000 scholarship as well as an official prize package.
Whipple will travel to Orlando in July to compete for the title of Miss America’s Outstanding Teen. This is a division of the Miss America Organization, which is the largest provider of college scholarships to young women in the country.
Blackwell, a local competitor, is the daughter of Troy and Amy Blackwell. She is a student at Bowling Green High School.
Also in the Top-10 was Miss Zona Rosa’s Outstanding Teen Sarah Kasubke, of Mexico. She is the daughter of Bruce and Mary Ann Kasubke. Sarah attends Mexico High School.
Miss Branson’s Outstanding Teen Abilene Lortz, of St. James, won the overall and rookie winner awards for evening gown and on-state question.
The rookie winners were:
Crown group-Miss Kirksville’s Outstanding Teen Halie Hebron, of O’Fallon. She is the daughter of Mark and Michele Hebron. Halie performed a tap dance to “Rock This Town.”
Sash group-Miss Fleur de Lis’ Outstanding Teen Abbie Mueller, of St. Louis. She is the daughter of Brandon and Amanda Mueller. Abbie sang “That’s Life.”
The overall winners were:
Crown group-Miss Springfield’s Outstanding Teen Shae Smith, of Bolivar. She is the daughter of Mark and Angie Smith. Shae performed a jazz dance to “Light It Up.”
Sash group-Miss Northwest’s Outstanding Teen Faith Whatley-Blaine, of Florissant. She is the daughter of Jim Blaine and Nancy Whatley. Faith played “Flight of the Bumblebee/Bumble Boogie” on the piano. Miss Teen preliminary award winners had two crown winners. They were Miss Hannibal’s Outstanding Teen Rylee Ingram, of Palmyra, and Whipple.
The action-packed week also featured a fun Thursday lunch at the Audrain County Historical Society wearing Kentucky Derby attire and a parade on Saturday in downtown Mexico among other activities.
