With Miss Rhode Island and Miss Newport on hand, the Middletown International House of Pancakes gave away a short stack to every customer on Feb. 25 in honor of National Pancake Day.

Molly Andrade, Miss Rhode Island, and Isabella Bennett, Miss Newport, mingled with customers and posed for photos as IHOP accepted donations to support the Hasbro Hospital and the Children’s Miracle Network. Every customer who donated $5 was given a $5 gift certificate to use at a later date. Some of the servers also donated $1 of their tip for every customer that donated.

It was part of a national cause in which pageant winners across the country visited their local IHOPs. Andrade said that Children’s Miracle Network and the Miss America Organization share a commitment to raise awareness and funds for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals across the country. She was hoping to visit all five IHOPs in the state on Feb. 25, starting in Middletown, where she grew up.

“Most are only visiting one IHOP location, but since we’re the smallest state, I thought I would challenge myself to visit them all,” she said.

Bennett, who lives in North Kingston, was born and raised in Newport and is a freshman at CCRI majoring in emergency disaster management and homeland security. She is also a union actress with the Screen Actors Guild, featured in the AMC series “NOS4A2.”

Now in its 15th year, IHOP National Pancake Day is the brand’s signature giving event. This year, IHOP aims to raise more than $4 million for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals and other local charities, including Shriner’s Hospital for Children and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

“IHOP launched its National Pancake Day event 15 years ago as a way to … put a purpose behind the day by partnering with Children’s Miracle Network hospitals and other charities to help kids in our communities,” said Stephanie Peterson, executive director of communications at IHOP.
