Miss Rwanda 2022: Massive turn up as auditions conclude in Kigali

The City of Kigali records the highest representation in Miss Rwanda 2022 auditions after a massive turn up that shaped Saturday’s auditions held at Hilltop Hotel, leaving 29 contestants given a nod to progress to the next stages of the beauty contest.

Kigali marked the last stop of the provincial auditions which run throughout the past three weeks, leaving a total of 70 contestants selected from the country’s four provinces and the Kigali City.

Kigali auditions attracted a record 117 aspirants from a possible 191 who registered, a turn up which was way higher compared to other auditions upcountry.

This prompted pageant organisers to start the auditions earlier than expected to avoid delays in making deliberations on who advances to the next stages and who stays.

The first contestant appeared before the jury a few minutes to 11.30 AM as Miss Rwanda 2016 Jolly Mutesi and journalists James Munyaneza and Evelyne Umurerwa had a tough task to make sure that each contestant gets to the point of use as few minutes as possible while presenting their projects in favor of time management.

This turned out to be arguably the trickiest audition sessions for the jury as it required thorough attention for them to decide who gets PASS as contestants did their best to present projects in a language of their choice.

Unlike other provinces, the majority of Kigali’s contestants looked more prepared and more confident before the jury and the way their insightful presentations could be one of the key factors that motivated the jury to increase the number of PASS given to the contestants.

In the end, 29 contestants were given PASS and joined 41 contestants selected from upcountry auditions, with Northern, Western and Southern Provinces having nine apiece while 14 contestants were selected from Eastern Province.

The women now have a two-week break during which they will have a media tour and time craft their projects before they contest in the pre-selections slated for February 26.

The pre-selections will decide the final contestants who will go for a boot camp.
