Miss South Africa Is Super *Emotional* After Ending Her Country's Three-Year Winning Streak

'It was extremely hard, knowing South Africa did so well for three years.'

Miss South Africa Natasha Joubert is feeling emotional lately after putting an end to her country's three-year winning streak at Miss Universe.

The 23-year-old beauty queen broke into tears while doing an Instagram Live video on May 21, Friday.

“I’m doing well. I’m obviously a little bit emotional,” she shared when asked how she is doing.

Natasha failed to enter the Top 21. She follows in the footsteps of Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi, Miss Universe 2018 first runner-up Tamaryn Green, and Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters.

Natasha talked about how she prepared herself mentally before the pageant and how she's processing the outcome of the competition.

“All I can say is, the one thing I told myself before going to Miss Universe, was regardless of the outcome, if I did everything I could and if I’m happy with my performance, I need to be content with whatever the outcome is. And it was hard to accept. It wasn’t something I expected.”

“There’s a reason why I didn’t make it to Top 21. It’s not something I’ll understand currently, it’s not something I expected to happen, it was extremely hard standing there and knowing that South Africa did so well for three years.”

Natasha was also heartbroken not only for South Africa but for the whole of Africa, as well as the people she worked with preparing for the competition.

“Yes, I cried. Yes, I was disappointed. But yeah, I was also inspired by not placing to just know there’s a different plan and path for my life and it’s sometimes difficult to understand because you think of ‘Poor South Africa.’ You think of not one African to place in the Top 21. You think of your organization, your coach, and your designer, where I couldn’t even have shown my final dress, the jeweler that made my earrings. And you do feel some sort of disappointment.”

Despite being in low spirits, Natasha says she's overwhelmed with all the love and support she's been receiving. She even made a special shoutout to fans from Thailand and the Philippines during the IG Live.

“I’m really receiving so much love. Thailand, Philippines, you guys are amazing. Really, thank you.”

She says she might do some modeling and create a ready-to-wear collection for Natalia Jeffreys, a fashion label she's been running with her mother since 2016. Here's a bit of trivia: Natasha actually designed her own evening dress in her final interview with judges at Miss Universe. Wow!

For now, she'll be enjoying some much-deserved downtime traveling in the U.S., before returning to South Africa.
