Brenda Nanyonjo is the CEO of the Miss Uganda franchise, that is responsible for organizing the annual Miss Uganda beauty pageant. Fondly called ‘Mama’ due to her nurturing ways, Brenda has managed to hold 6 successful pageants since acquiring the license from the Miss World offices in UK in 2011.

Brenda is also an all-round entertainer, an actress, dancer and formerly worked for the African Woman Magazine, that was owned by celebrated fashion designer Slyvia Owori.

We looked at her previous interviews with Daily Monitor to come up with some of her success tid-bits.

PASSION
Her passion for mentoring girls informed her decision to step in and save the day when the ship of the Miss Uganda pageant was sinking deep.
“As a person who has had a lifelong passion for mentoring girls, I could not let such an opportunity go to waste. I vowed to restore integrity and credibility to the pageant”.
PERSISTENCE
Miss Uganda is now one of the most looked up to events in the Ugandan social calendar with companies scrambling to jump onboard its sponsorship, however, at one point, no sponsor wanted to attach their name to it. Brenda was not deterred by the constant rejection, she kept going.
“I faced a lot of difficulty in 2011 as I was looking for sponsors for the Miss Uganda franchise. Most companies I visited turned me down. They were not willing to sponsor the event.”
SACRIFICE
In 2011, Brenda was forced to sell her car after failing to raise enough money from sponsors to cover the pageant. She sold her Toyota car at Shs8m in order to come up with Shs14m to buy a car for the 2011/2012 winner Sylvia Namutebi.
THICK SKIN
The Miss Uganda franchise has been the subject of several controversies but Brenda remains unscathed by such criticisms due to her thick skin.
“My attitude when I hear such negative rumors about me, I think to myself, they need to heal and it has nothing to do with me.”
GOD
“There were moments in the past I used to fast and pray to God to turn the Miss Uganda Franchise around. At that time, I did not see any results but finally, in 2018, He turned things around at the Miss World finals.”
REPUTATION
“Having a good reputation is more valuable than money. It is bankable; you can achieve a lot of things once people believe in who you are.”
