Hangzhou, China (TPP News) - Hangzhou, the capital of China’s Zhejiang province, is the southern terminus of the ancient Grand Canal waterway, which originates in Beijing. Its West Lake, celebrated by poets and artists since the 9th century, encompasses islands (reachable by boat), temples, pavilions, gardens and arched bridges. On its south bank is 5-story Leifeng Pagoda, a modern reconstruction of a structure built in 975 A.D.


In a series of photos, Miss Universe 2016 Philippine Producer and Host Committee Chairperson, architect Richelle Louise Singson – Michael chronicles her meetings with the officials of the Hangzhou Municipal Government together with the Miss Universe Organization President Paula Shugart and Shawn McClain which happened this month of March 2018. The LCS Group’s Vice Chair and the MUO Officials met with the Vice-Mayor of Hangzhou, the Deputy Secretary-General of the Hangzhou Municipal Government, and the Director of the Hangzhou Convention and Exhibition Industry Association to name a few officials they met in preparations for the Miss Universe Pageant.

The meetings are not just exploratory for the MUO have brought with them their top honchos! McClain, who currently serves as the VP of Business Development and Marketing at the Miss Universe Organization, works to structure and secure host site, advertising and corporate sponsorship agreements for domestic and international broadcasts, in addition to revenue streams from endorsements, TV & digital distribution. So it is safe to say that having Hangzhou host the upcoming 2018 Miss Universe Pageant is already a closed-deal.

The venue is the Hangzhou Peace International Convention and Exhibition Center. It is modernized center covering a spacious area of more than two acres, with one hundred and twenty-seven thousand (127,000) square meters of the building surface. The area of indoor exhibition hall is about sixty thousand square meters, and outdoor area is thirty thousand square meters. Covering an extensive area, it is known as the largest complex exhibition center in Zhejiang Province. The exhibition hall is designed with large span structures to create a lenient environment and atmosphere. The exhibition center is also an impressive non-columnar architecture that offers five exhibition halls: A, B, C, D and E forming the character “H”. Hall A and E have an area of fifteen thousand square meters being the largest exhibition halls in China while only four pillars were used.

Hangzhou is the birthplace of Dragon Well (Longjing) tea, which is the most famous green tea in China and ranked as first among China’s top 10 teas.


Hangzhou, known as the “Capital of Tea in China”, has been one of the famous tea production bases in China since ancient times. The tea culture is an important part of Hangzhou.





Hangzhou tea plantations are mainly comprised of Longjing Tea Plantation and Meijiawu Tea Plantation. It is a memorable experience to step into a tea plantation to pick tea leaves and learn the art of tea-making
