Every month, Conan Daily will pay tribute to the present generation’s best representative of beauty and femininity in the world. First, we present a short biography about the woman, then we enumerate 13 interesting things about her.


For January 2020, our Calendar Woman is Zozibini Tunzi, 26, of South Africa. She is the reigning Miss Universe 2019.


Tunzi was born on September 18, 1993 in Tsolo, South Africa and she has three sisters namely Yanga Tunzi, 30, Sibabalwe Tunzi, 24, and Ayakha Tunzi, 13. Their father Lungisa Tunzi works at the Department of Higher Education and Training in Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa while their mother Philiswa Tunzi Nadopu is a school principal at Bangweni Junior Secondary School in Bolotwa, Eastern Cape, South Africa.


On December 8, 2019, Zozibini was crowned Miss Universe 2019 at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, United States besting 89 other candidates. Here are 13 more fun facts about the South African beauty:


She earned her bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and Image Management and her graduate degree in Public Relations Management at Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa.
She worked as a graduate intern in the Public Relations Department of Ogilvy Cape Town.
In 2015, she was crowned Miss Mamelodi Sundowns while she was a Cape Peninsula University of Technology sophomore student.
She competed in Miss South Africa 2017 and did not make it to the finals but won the title on August 9, 2019, which happened to be South Africa’s National Women’s Day, when she returned to the same pageant.
In 2018, she represented Cape Town in the SABC 3 reality television show “Presenter Search on 3,” a competition for aspiring interviewers, and did not win the competition but later on returned as an interviewee.
She is the third woman from South African to win Miss Universe following Margaret Gardiner and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, who were crowned in 1978 and 2017, respectively.
She is the sixth black Miss Universe following Janelle Commissiong of Trinidad and Tobago, Chelsi Smith of the U.S., Wendy Fitzwilliam of Trinidad and Tobago, Mpule Kwelagobe of Botswana, Leila Lopes of Angola, who were crowned in 1977, 1995, 1998, 1999 and 2011, respectively.
She refused to wear a wig in Miss Universe 2019 and became the first woman to win title with afro-textured hair.
She looks up to Harriet Tubman, Steve Biko and Nelson Mandela.
As an activist against gender violence, she is working with the United Nations on the HeforShe campaign and launched the Miss South Africa Love Letter campaign, which calls on men to direct messages of support to South African women of love.
While she is a big fan of Marvel Comics, she loves “Wonder Woman” of DC Comics.
Her favorite foods are beef stew and Umngqusho, an African dish made from stamp mielies and sugar beans.
She has acrophobia and trypophibia.
